GREECE 2010: already 9 new species! |
|
||||||||||||||||||||||
Since 29 May our members Pier Mauro Giachino and Dante Vailati are involved, in Greece, in the 16th research campaign of the Project “Research Missions in the Mediterranean Basin”, under the aegis and with the contribution of the WBA. At the middle of the expedition our members have already discovered as much as 9 new species to science. They are six species of Coleoptera Bathyscinae and three species of Coleoptera Carabidae (two of the genus Speluncarius and one of the genus Duvalius). Investigations on the subterranean fauna of Greece, by means of cave explorations and researches in the “milieu souterain superficiel” (MSS) and in different ecosystems, like mediterranean shrubland, beechwoods, coniferous woods and perinival environments are to be done during the expedition. The researches began in the Peloponnese, are now continuing in the central Pindo Mountain Chain, and will finish to the mountains of the North of Greece, at the border with Albany and Macedonia. This expedition began under very favourable auspices (one new spesies for each day!) and, we hope, it will finish, 22 June, with a very large booty! Good work, Pier Mauro and Dante! |
