The volume “Flora illustrata del Monte Baldo” has been presented last Thursday 17 december 2009 to the Palace of the Province of Trento, at the presence of the authors Filippo Prosser, Alessio Bertolli and Francesco Festi. It is a very precious volume of 1240 pages documenting the 1952 floristic species collected on the Monte Baldo, a mountain chain between the Garda Lake and the Vallagarina, that has as much as a 43% of the entire alpine flora, although its extension is only a 0,2% of the alpine territory.
The floristic richness of the Monte Baldo is known since, in 1566 Francesco Calzolari documented the presence of hundreds of species in his book “Viaggio di Monte Baldo”, provoking a botanical interest for this mountain area that earned it the appellative of “Hortus Europae”.
It is a book full of illustrations and reports, that opens with the history of the floristic exploration of the Monte Baldo and goes on with the ample section dedicated to each species of this territory, including the endemic species, also the ones recently discovered, like Brassica repanda baldensis, described in 2007.
