15.11.2008 The first return trip from "Australia 2008" |
Our member and coordinator of the WBA Scientific Committee, Pier Mauro Giachino, has been the first to come back from our expedition “Australia 2008”; the others will stay there for some weeks, and they will be in Italy in december, after a stop in Istitutes and Museums of the United States (Smithsonian and Chicago Natural History Museum).
We can, however, do a first balance of the expedition; our members in september attended the XIX International Symposium of Biospeleology in Fremantle (Perth) presenting, with the contribution of WBA, two posters on the Aquatic Fauna of the Pre-alpine Springs and on the Tasmanian Subterranean Carabids. After the Congress our members made researches for three weeks in the Western Australia (to the North till the Pilbara region and to the South to the Nullarbor Plain) and in the South Australia (Mount Remarkable National Park). The entomological material collected during the expedition is very interesting, particularly the Coleoptera Crysomelidae, among which, after a first examination of the specimens, there are surely some new species to the Science. |
