Help us to save 100 Hectares of Amazonia! Since its foundation, our Association is engaged in direct conservation of biodiversity through funds collection for buying portions of rainforest. In the last years 40 hectares of Otonga Reserve, an ecuadorian mountain cloud rainforest, have been bought by means of “Fundacion Otonga”, a not for profit organization operating in Ecuador, presided by our founder member prof. Giovanni Onore.
The Otonga Reserve is in the Province of Pichincha, on the western Ecuadorian Andean side, and has an extension of about 1,500 hectares. It has become a real “Sanctuary of Biodiversity” and is strictly protected by the members of the Fundacion Otonga.
Now, we have the occasion to extend the area protected by Fundacion Otonga by buying 100 more hectares of rainforest on the Amazonian side, between Puyo and Santa Clara, in the Province of Pastaza. The lot of forest is for sale at 50,000 dollars and borders on a lot of about 60 hectares already belonged by Fundacion Otonga. In this forest lives Atelopus spumarius, a frog threatened of extinction because of the distruction of its habitat.
In practice, it is an area of one million of square metres that can be saved with only 5 cents per metre.
World Biodiversity Association ask members, friends and supporters to mobilize for the collection of funds that will allow to save this portion of Amazonia. Once saved, the forest will be the destination of a scientific expedition to study its biodiversity. The most important contributors could be admitted to the expedition.
World Biodiversity Association opens the subscription with a contribution of 500 dollars to buy the first hectare!
